Pike National Forest

The Mountain Communities Fire Protection District (MCFPD) covers forest areas of the Pikes Peak, South Platte, and South Park ranger districts within the Pike National Forest. There are several beautiful areas within our forest where residents and visitors can recreate. Please always be mindful of current weather conditions and fire restrictions.

Recreating Responsibly

  • A line of ATVs and UTVs out on the trail

    Exploring the Trails

There are hundreds of miles of trails to explore by foot, horseback, mountain bike, dirt bike, ATV, and UTV across our district. Please utilize appropriate safety equipment, dress for the weather, carry appropriate supplies (e.g., water, food, and a first aid kit), and always let someone know before you hit the trails.

  • An active campfire on a hillside overlooking mountains in the distance.

    Camping

Our district features several designated and dispersed camping options. Please be mindful of forest service fire restrictions. When campfires are allowed, they must be at least 100 feet from lakes, streams, and trails. Ensure campfires are fully drowned and cool to the touch before you leave your camp.

  • A shooting target at Turkey Tracks Shooting Area

    Target Shooting

Recreational shooting within our district is allowed only in designated areas with very specific targets. Unfortunately, we are responding to a growing number of incidents resulting from misuse of firearms. All gun owners/users must learn of and comply with all regulations within forest boundaries.
